Mukdahan is located in southern area of SakonNakon Basin, where the Phupan mountain range lies to the east and along side of Khong River into four different rows. The mountains mark the boundary of 72 kilometers between Mukdahan and Suvannakhet, a province of People’s Democratic Republic of Laos. The rolling plains are situated among the mountains, whereas on the estuaries are natural levees lying along side of Mekhong River. There are some important canals in the area such as HauMuk, Hua Bang E, Hua Bang Sai, HuaChanot, HuaSai, and etc. Mukdahan is 289 meters above sea level.
The province is divided into 7 districts (Amphur), and the districts are further subdivided into 52 sub-districts (Tambon). The province has 1 Provincial Administrative Organization; 49 Tambon Administrative Organizations; and 5 municipalities. Amphur Muang is the biggest administrative area in Mukdahan, and the second one is Amphur Dongluang. The smallest administrative area is Amphur Wanyai.
What is the best time to visit Mukdahan for business?

The weather in Mukdahan is hot even in the winter with the highest temperature of 33 C and the lowest of 10 C. There is little rain.

Therefore any time during the year is a good time to visit Mukdahan province. However, business would take up at the time when Mukdahan is into celebrations of some traditional festivals. Mukdahan Red Cross Fair (งานกาชาดจังหวัดมุกดาหาร) held annually between 9–17 January in front of the city hall, the fair includes exhibitions, outlets of state departments. Bun Duean Hok or Bun Bang Fai Festival (งานประเพณีบุญเดือนหก หรือ บุญบั้งไฟ) The celebration of the rocket festival is held annually on 10–12 May at Mu 1-3 of Amphoe Don Tan. Boat Races (ประเพณีการแข่งเรือ) The tradition has been handed down since ancient times. It is held annually, on the 13th – 15th days of the waxing moon of the 11th lunar month, in the Mekong River to mark the end of Buddhist Lent. Each year, numerous boats join the competition in both categories while people from Mukdahan and nearby provinces as well as Lao PDR. pack the venue. Boats from Savannakhet also join the races every year. Considering it is the meeting point for people across the two countries, visiting Mukadahan during early January or May seems to be most apt for business purposes.

• 50 per cent reduction of corporate income tax for 5 years after the exemption period.
• Double deduction from taxable income of transportation, electricity and water costs for 10 years from the date of first revenue derived from promoted activity.
• 75 percent import duty reduction on raw or essential materials used in manufacturing for domestic sales for 5 years, based on annual approval (This incentive is not available to projects in Laem Chabung Industrial Estate and industrial estates or promoted industrial zones in Rayong province.)

Infrastructure Facilities

The planted area in 2009/ 2010 of major rice divided into 97,985 rai which can produce 44,638 tons of non-glutinous rice (average 456 kilograms/ rai) and 432,593 rai which can produce 202,877 tons of glutinous rice (average 470 kilograms/ rai).
Cassava is an important agronomy of the province. With 135,107 rai planted area, farmers can produce 418,389 tons (average 3,097 kilogram/ rai). Opportunities in Tourism

Skyscraping Ho Kaeo Tower, Phu Pha Thoep and Kaeng Kabao, Eight Ethnic Minorities, Famous Sweet Tamarind, Large Ancient Kettledrum, Origin of Lam Phaya, Stunning View of the Mekong River, Gateway to Indochina. The founding of Mukdahan dates to the late Ayutthaya period, over 200 years ago, when the site of the new town was selected at the mouth of Huai Muk on the bank of the Mekong River in 1767. The town was completed in 1770 and named “Mukdahan” (moonstone or pearl) according to a propitious sign that appeared while the town was under construction. Even today the locals call the town “Mueang Muk” or the pearl on the bank of the Mekong.
